Before I share more of my winter shots of Killbear from last week, I thought I would go back to a warmer time earlier this year when I was shooting the Little River at Great Smoky Mountains.

I have tried several times to get shots like this, but they never have worked for me. Thanks for sharing this one - it will keep me trying. Love the water and rock effects.

@Farol: Hi Farol. When I shoot waterfalls, I use a couple of techniques to create the silky effect. I arrive early or late to the location when the light is quite low. I use a tripod and a remote release. I use a filter, either a polarizer or ND, to cut the light even further. I use a small aperture for depth of field and to further cut the amount of light. And most importantly, I use a slow shutter speed. You will note that on this exposure, I used f22 for 15 seconds. It was very, very dark outside. Almost 9pm at night. You can get this type of exposure by shooting with a small aperture (try f22) and a shutter speed of a second or higher depending on conditions. A tripod is a must for this type of shot.
Spot On!!
